Windows Update ? Or something dodgy?

Just built a brand new XP machine. Zonealarm and AVG antivirus. Connected to
the web via ADSL.

All's ok, then it try to reboot itself and I suspect the Blaster virus...And
sure enough AVG detects it (too late somehow!!!).

Then 15 min later the PC is continually downloading, and uploading even
more. (Downloading at 3k and uploading at 10k).

Initially I assumed it was Windows Update. It carried out for a couple of
hours, so I disconnect and turn Windows Update Off in the System option and
reboot.

IT keeps downloading / uploading.

3 Questions:

1. How can I see what files & date are actually being uploaded and
downloaded on my connection. Thought Zonealarm might indicate, but can't
find this option.
2. Do people thing this behaviour indicates Windows Update (SP2 download??)
..If so why is more being uploaded than downloaded?; if not could it be
something dodgy.
3. If it is Windows Update...how do you disable it once the downloaded has
started?

TIA, Tony

in your zone alarm you are able to see what programs are active,
your virus program is something that is always checking for updates
as well as many of a number of programs
you can manually turn off this feature per program as well as your windows
update

make sure you know the details about your access and your server in your
zonealarm and what to turn on and off.
if you are not sure of what to do put in just ask

But can Zonealarm actually tell me when files are being downloaded over the
ADSL link. I see loads of activity but can not see where it tells me what is
being up/downloaded.
