Windows Update locks or hangs on 0%

I am unable to use the windows update site. When I click
on "scan for updates" the program appears to hang or lock
on 0% and stop communication. The only way to close IE
at this point is to end task through the task manager. I
have tried several fixs through the microst knowledge
base and nothing has helped. I don't know what to try
next or how to get additional help! HELP - cep

What kind of an internet connection are you using
dialup/broadband ?
What operating system ? Firewall ? proxy server ?

unable to sign in to hotmail.com just get a white screen

Sign into passport and try to update infromation, after
pressing update get page can't be displayed ..

I am using IE6 and my internet provider is bellsouth
dsl. My operating system is Win XP home and I am also
running norton internet security. I'm not sure what a
proxy server is? - cep

Bellsouth doesn't use a proxy...

Does it work if you disable NIS?
