Windows Update is not Working.

I was using windows update, then upgraded to the microsoft update, and now
when i get to the Checking for the latest updates for your computer... page,
the green bar goes forever, without doing anything. My firewall says IE is
not sending or receiving packets, it just stops at that page. Help
