This has been happening for months. When I try to do an update the page says
it's checking for updates, freezes up and I'm forced to close the page. I
don't get any particular error code just the internet explorer can not
display this page. I've been looking through these posts and other websites
plenty but I'm no computer genius and I really don't know where to start.
Also I can not download Adobe to read PDF files. I'm assuming because my
windows program is not updated. All I know is that I have Windows XP home.
Please help and sorry for the ignorance!!! Thanks!!!!

What happens if you goto Start and select the control panel. Change the view
to classic. Do you have an automatic update link? If so double click it and
enable the auto updates so it will automatically download them and notify you
for the install.

That would be a workaround for you. Otherwise, you may have to wait a while.
I saw an older Pentium 3 take almost 30 minutes to finish checking for
updates.

Hope it helps!

there is "free" technical
support from a certified
Microsoft technician.

Tried that but it doesn't do anything. I have had it set for automatic
updates for awhile (months) but I don't see the setting working for me.
Thanks for the suggestion.

The link does the same exact thing that my updates are doing...freezing. Any
other ideas would be great. Thanks for the help!!!

yeh,
you also have 2 free
technical support for any
issue regarding win xp.

however, afterwards there
is a charge.

in anycase, support for
update issues are always
free.

i would call the phone
number provided with
your windows cd and
let them transfer you
to the updates center.
