Windows update for BITS won't install

I have two XP SP1 machines that need to go to SP2. When I visit the Windows
Update site and try to install Update #KB842773, it ends with a message that
it did not install. I have repeated attempts with no success. Both machines
are behaving identically. What am I missing? I cannot proceed with more
updates.

Download SP2 and run the installation locally on each machice.
