Windows Update- D-Link driver May 02 2003 Fault

Windows Update site for Windows XP Professional offers an
Updated driver for the D-Link Airplus Xtreme DWL G650
Wireless adapter. It is described as 'D-Link network
software update released on May 02 2003'.
When installed this update causes the D-Link
Configuration Utility to fail, displaying 'No Card Found'
beside the Tray Icon. Curiously the card continues to
work, but now no configuration changes can be made.
My experience is that no amount of uninstalling hardware
or drivers will fix this, and I have had to use the
Restore facility to wind XP back to a point where it
works again.
Can somebody get Microsoft or D-Link to take an interest
in this?
