WINDOWS TASK MANAGER - PERFORMANCE - CPU SPIKES

R

RON R

Suddenly, my computer developed a problem with continuous
and repetitive CPU Usage spikes. It goes through phases
where it continually alternates (every couple of seconds)
between 4% and 80%. And while I am working on programs
the hourglass retitively appears and disappears in
correspondence to the spikes. This is a new computer
with lots of power. It is a Cyberpower, Inc., Athlon XP
2500+, 1.83 ghz, 512 MB of Ram. I used to be able to
have multiple Internet Explorer Windows and several
programs all running without any loss of speed, and never
even getting close to capacity. If I had a virus, it is
not there now. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

Kernel spikes in Task Manager brings CPU to it's knees

Recently I have had the exact issue. I have a Dell Inspiron ,OS is XP Pro (sp2) ,
2-gig memory, 1-80g HD, 1-240g USB2 HD external, task manager shows spikes 4-82%. When I turn Kernel ON in VIEW all but 4% is Kernel Time.

I would like some help as well.

HELP

I have a chart Available in .BMP
