Hi I purchased my pc in oct last year and since then I have had to perform 7 reloads due tho the following error message. "WINDOWS COULD NOT START BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING FILE IS MISSING OR CORRUPT \ WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM YOU CAN ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THIS FILE BY STARTING WINDOWS SET UP USING THE ORIGINAL SET UP CD ROM", After contacting technical help they said I can only repair this using an original Cd rom with windows xp, which I was never supplied with when I purchased it, However can anyone tell me why I keep getting this message and having to perform numerous reloads (4 in the last 3 months), After reloading my pc works fine and then from nowhere i receive this message, I can access the command menu by pressing F8 on start up however if I choose Safe mode or last good config, the message still apperas and I am unable to access the system unless I reload, Can you pleeaasse HELP me as it is really starting to annoy me having to reload and re install all my software and hardware etc

Thanks Very Much to all who can help

Try a boot into Safe Mode, by hitting F8 just before the "Starting
Windows" screen would appear (takes a bit of practice).
Choose LAST GOOD.

If that does nothing, use a working PC to read this first...

After your system is restored, the ERUNT utility available here may

If the problem persists, try swapping current RAM (even if it checks
good) for a single, high-quality 512Mb chip. XP reportedly is sensitive
to memory timing.
