windows system restore

My notebook could not start beacause folloing files missing or
corrupt:windows\system32\config\system
I can not start in safe mode either. The screen instruction says: put in
the original setup cd-rom and press r for repair. But all trying come to
full restore, not to an ealier date. What can I do?

You may want to post this in a more appropriate group such as the
windowsxp.general group but:
