Windows Suddenly Close/Disappear

Just re-imaged a Sony Laptop PCD-F580K using Sony Recovery CD's. Then
update to SP4 and all other Wupdates. Updated to available BIOS, Video, and
touchpad updates fr. Sony site.

Intermittently, a window will open then suddenly close; no special area;
once in the Start/Run window, once when in Display Properties turning off
Hardware Acceleration, My Computer properties, etc. RAM tested with two
utiulites ok and new Fujitsu 20GB hard drive.

Hard to find this symptom mentioned anywhere when there is no virus causing
it. Any ideas?

There is a way to start a "Window" and then hide it. Check your Processes for anything unusual or that you cannot identify. Ask back here if you have any questions on what you see there.
