Not impressed. It advertises v2.06 but delivers v2.05. The Close button
on About does not work. I have sent several well known applications to be
added but they have not been implemented. It is a reactive application.

WinPatrol is much better as it is pro-active and Scotty warns you of things
being installed.

Thanks to both of you, CalamityKen and Kerodo.
You've saved me from installing it.
I'm already and happily using WinPatrol.

A very good combination of programs is this:

http://blogs.msdn.com/jonathanh/archive/2004/03/13/89220.aspx

Autorun.exe lists all the startup items, even stuff other startup
managers are missing, and in the order they start, and you can delete
any of them.

Process Explorer shows all running processes in your computer, and lets
you kill any of them. I use this program several times each day, to
check that no new processes have been started which should not be
running.

There is a program called ddhelp.exe which is started by a lot of
programs, with very high priority level, realtime, and I often kill it
to save resources, and especially before I start burning a CD.

These two programs, autoruns and process explorer, do not stay in memory
and steal resources, they start very fast when you need to use them.

Strange.I use v 2.5 version along with codestuff starter and startman.the
about button works for me (w98) and it also deletes (removes) entries.I
actually sent 2 new entries to be considered and one (remind me calendar)has
since been included. The second one (secondchance recovery prog for 98)hasnt.

Sysinternals Freeware
The real homepage of the programs

Yeah, thanks. I just took the first page that had links to both programs
at the beginning of the text, plus an explanation of the purpose of the
programs. I was in a hurry so I thought it was good enough.

But the Sysinternals own page is of course better.

By the way, in process explorer it is useful to go to View menu - Select
Columns, mark "Base priority".

Then you can see the priority of the process in a new column, I think
that is very valuable. You do not want a process running at very high
priority, like Real time, unnecessarily.

I often wonder why the ddhelp.exe is run at real time priority, or why
it is run at all. I kill it every time I see it, with no detrimental
effects on execution of any program.

Information about MS Windows libraries is provided by Microsoft here:

You can search there for ddhelp.exe

Thanks, that is a really useful url.

I found that it is a part of activex which is started by windows media
player and other activex programs. It often remains active in memory
when it should have been terminated, and it also cause kernel fault
problems.

I will try renaming it and get rid of all programs which complain about
that it is no longer available.
