WINDOWS STANDY-BY FREEZE UP

Hey everyone, I usually leave my computer on all day in standy-by mode, but
recently, when I am putting my CPU in standy-by, it just sits at the blue
windows message screen saying "preparing to stand-by" and does not stand-by,
but freezes at that screen!! Can anyone help me to correct his problem?

I have a similar problem; when I go to Start, and click "put in standby mode"
I get the message "The device driver for the Communications Port (Com1)
device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all
applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update
this driver."
