The "windows sounds" when windows starts have unexpected
stopped, although I have selected them in control panel.
The sound card works (embeded in Intel D845PESV m/b) and I
have sound when I play them in control panel!
Please help.
Thanks

Hello

They are stopped in between when a sound is played from other source like
winamp.

They have stopped at logon and during windows operations.
Example: winamp plays, I hit windows volume with mouse
pointer, no windows sound only a bip from m/b speaker!

This occurs with me too. I think this is the normal
behaviour.

Anything else wrong with your system? When I had that
problem, I had been infected with a virus.

No virus detected.
Anybody knows the registry entries for "windows sounds"
Thanks

Did you recently apply any Window's updates? If I remember correctly
KB835732 caused this behavior on one of my computers. Removing the patch
returned the sound function to normal. Removing the sound drivers and
reinstalling them would not correct the issue, however, a subsequent fresh
install where all updates were installed prior to installation of the sound
drivers worked fine. The computer affected has an ASUS P4P800 dlx
motherboard with integrated SoundMax audio.

Please don't top-post.

It most likely is in the registry, but first you should check
ControlPanel=>SoundsAndMultimedia and check that
for "Start Windows", the file 'Windows Logon Sound.wav'
is selected (and that the volume is sufficient) and check
that this .wav file has not been compromised.
