Windows software RAID 5?

If I setup a win2k server using software raid 5 on three drives, but my OS resides on a sperate non-raid drive will I loose the array if I loose the OS drive? If so is there a way to save the raid array information to apply it to a new OS install?

No, the information will still be safe. Check out this article about moving
a software RAID 5 from one server to another (this is essentially what you
do if you have to reinstall your operating system):

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=222189

Another possibility would be to add a fifth drive and mirror your operating
system drives.

I would suggets a hardware RAID solution...

software RAID has some performance hits because the processor has to
calculate the parity and all that.

I third, fourth, and fifth it. I wouldn't want my server OS having to do all
the work to manage the RAID - hardware RAID is also much more reliable.
