windows shut down

Every time I connect to the internet regardless of which
ISP I use or occassionally even after extended periods
just having the computer on, it says windows has had an
unexpected remote procedure call terminate and must shut
down. I cannot get online to get an update because the
computer shuts down. One time I had a pop up that said
something about windows messenget has a problem on all
windows except windows 2000 and that my computer is
affected and causes something to overflow and makes the
computer shut down. Before I could read it all, the
computer shut down.

Any suggestions or software that I can get would be
appreciated.

Greetings Jay,

It sounds like the computer is being hit with an RPC exploit. To correct, install this
patch:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.mspx

If this happens again (say while you're downloading the patch), click Start, then Run, then
type "cmd" and click OK. Then on the command line, type:
shutdown -a

This will abort the shutdown and allow you to install the patch.

You can then remove any worm that causes this that may have infected your PC using this tool:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixBlast.exe
