When I was setting up a new website frontpage gave me an error message. It
said "The website at http://localhost/ does not appear to have windows
sharepoint services installed"

Locally, that means you have not installed or configure the FP extensions.

Is that something you could help me do? I am a new Frontpage user (used a
different program before) but this is the first time I have tried a local
server, so I am at a real loss!!! Thank you!

Yes, this is something I or someone else can help you with, however you need to tell us what version
of Windows you are running, it would also be helpful to know what version of FP you are using as
well.

Thanks a lot Thomas!

I am running XP Pro with FP 2003. I have installed .NET framework,
webmatrix, and IIS.

Ok, goto Control Panel | Admin. Tools | Internet Information Services Manager

Right click on the default Web site | All Tasks and should see an option to install or extend the
web site with the FP2000 extensions.

AGHHH!!! Okay there was no option for installing or extending. I tried
reinstalling .NET and IIS. I also changed some of my security settings and
reset permissions defaults.

This took away the error message but then when I try to setup a new site
again in frontpage it appears to build the site then does nothing, no error
message, no site built, just leaves the setup screen as if I never hit "okay"

You can't create a new site under Windows XP Pro IIS, as it only allows a single root web, the
default web, you can only open the default web, at http://localhost. You can however create subsites
/ subwebs under localhost for individual web sites.

PS
Also get the latest FP 2002 SE and install them from
