Windows has the following service that comes already enabled and
running.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

The problem is that you get blasted with net send messeges every
second. Can this be turned on and modified in any way so i could set up
a group of PCs to send messenges between them without the hackers
getting in?

Desmond.

If you have XP Service Pack 2, then the Messenger service is disabled. If
your network is properly firewalled, it is safe to use the Messenger
service. Since you apparently are missing both those components of computer
safety, you should fix that issue and then you'll be able to use Messenger.

Otherwise, you can look into third-party "winpopup" type programs but your
computers are still not properly secured.

I found it's necessary to keep Messenger service enable. It's a good
way to be informed than the firewall is out of order.
