Windows Server 2003 VPN

Hi,

I am working to get a Windows Server 2003 Remote access server running at a
remote locations. We have been experiencing several problems. The error
messages 721 is displayed when connecting from Windows XP Pro and error 806
is displayed when connecting using Windows Server 2003. The error 806
displayed from Windows Server 2003 provides a little more detail. It
indicates there is a problem with the a firewall and protocol 47 (GRE). The
location we are attempting to connect to has in place a Netscreen Firewall.
Apparently protocol 47 is built in on this firewall and cannot be enabled or
disabled. Could this be a possible firmware issue?

Has anyone ever had this issue? If so, any advice would be greatly
appreciated.

If the firewall (or anything else in the path) blocks GRE (Generic
Routing Encapsulation or IP protocol 47), your PPTP VPN connection will
fail. All the data crossing the link is encrypted then encapsulated with a
GRE header. If GRE traffic is blocked, no data is transferred and the
connection closes.
