Actually Windows Xp is NT ver 5.1.
That said. Do you have data on the hard drive that you don't want lost?
Can you boot in the safe mode???
[[To start the computer in safe mode:
1. You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not be
available after you shut your computer down in step 2.
2. Click Start, click Shut Down, and then, in the drop- down list, click
Shut down.
3. In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
4. When you see the message "Please select the operating system to start",
press F8.
5. Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and
then press ENTER.
6. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation
that you
need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

If you can boot in safe mode backup whatever you think needs backed up.

Wes,
Thanks for the info, however, before I try them, I must
tell you I have Windows XP, Home edition and I have the
startup CD's but no Floppies. Does the fact that these
are fixes for Windows NT make a difference? Plus, I
cannot even get the computer to boot up, I can go into
setup though and change the boot order to go through CDRW
first, then what? I can get to MS-DOS, but I didn't know
where to go from there. Thanks TG
