Windows Resource Kit for XP??? (especially AddUsers.exe)

U

usenet

I want to run the "AddUsers.exe" program (as described here:
http://tinyurl.com/b9766) on a WinXP-Pro system.

In the past, this command was part of the Windows Resource Kit, which
was freely available from Microsoft.

I have found some Microsoft documentation on an XP version of the
Resource kit (http://tinyurl.com/a5wun), but I can't find the Kit
available for download (or even for purchase).

Does anyone know where I can get the XP resource kit, or at least the
"AddUsers.exe" program?

Thanks!!!

(This question is multi-posted; I posted it earlier in
alt.os.windows-xp (http://tinyurl.com/88cbx). Sorry about the breach of
usenettiquete, but after browsing some other posts in a.o.w.xp, I
decided that maybe I needed to find a different newsgroup.)

The Windows Resource Kits have never been available for download. Some of
the applications are but not all. You get the book the Windows XP Resource
Kit. That comes with a CD-ROM which contains all the applications in the
Kit. Where can you get this? Well I bought mine for $15.00 at eBay.

The original XP Reskit tools are available on the XP installation CD in
the \support\tools directory.

Took a little to find but try this link for a newer version if your CD
is not SP2:

Not only are they downloadable from support.microsoft.com but the

\support\tools directory. Please see my reply to the OP.

If you got the Windows XP Resource Kit you would find out that is not the
case.

Please explain George. Are the tools that come with the book different
from what's supplied on the XP CD or downloadable?

No. The tools avaialable for download are and always have been a subset of
what is available in the Retail product. The XP CD has what are called
Suppor Tools. The last time a reskit was on an op sys CD was Windows 98 and
even then they were a subset of the Full Retail Product. Some Support Tools
are included in the Reskits.

Thank you for clarifying that, George. I was not sure, not ever having
purchased it.

Thanks, Steve! That's exactly what I was looking for.

I'm on a corporate PC which is SMS-managed by a central installation
server under a Microsoft volume license; I don't have an XP install CD.

However, it seems that the "addusers" command is not part of the
XP-version of the Resource Kit (this command was included in the
NT-version).

Hmmmm.....

It is also in the Win2K Server Resource Kit and yes it is not in XP Pro
Resource Kit. It might only be a Server application. I think you can look
in the Win 2003 Resource Kit if it exists.

That's great Dave, I'm glad I could help. I don't know why it was left
out of XP RK. I guess Microsoft just does some pretty silly things and
no one knows why. We'd have to ask their development teams I suppose.
