Windows resetting itself

I restared my computer and windowsXP reset itself to default display settings
and my documents and desktop icons have been erased! The only icons left are
the normal ones like my computer and other stuff like when u first buy a
computer. I tried to restore but it did not bring anything back. What
Happened????

Right click Desktop | Properties | Desktop tab | Cusomize Desktop button |
Make sure the Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard every 60 days is UNChecked |
OK |Apply | OK
