Windows repair

I blew my boot sector (I think) and do not have an emergency repair disk. I've tried using the Win 2k setup and the repair, but it just asked for the repair disk. Any way I can get up and going again without reinstalling win 2k?

For starters you should found out exactly what's wrong with your system.
Here is a simple way:

- Format a floppy disk on some other Win2000 PC.
Don't do it on a Win9x PC - it won't work.
- Copy these files from the \i386 folder of your Win2000 CD
to A:\
ntldr
ntdetect.com
- Create a file a:\boot.ini with these lines
[Boot Loader]
Timeout=3
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional" /fastdetect
- Boot the machine with this floppy

What do you get?

It would also be useful if you provided full details about the history of
your machine. "I just blew the boot sector" is not very informative.
