I've been having this problem where i replaced the
ntoskrnl.exe with one I downloaded from the internet, to
make the boot-up screen "more pretty". But, it has made
it so after the new boot screen shows, the computer sits
in a dark screen and then flashes a blue screen for an
instant (REAL fast, un-readable), and then restarts. It
goes through that process as long as you want it to. Now,
I have tried the specail "restore settings that actully
worked" function, didnt work. I've tried to get into safe
mode, but did the same restart process. And now I am
trying to repair windows and it asks for an administrative
password, which I do not remember putting on. None of my
normal passwords work, and when I push enter (for a maybe
blank password) it cancels and goes to the command
prompt. I refuse to reformat my hard drive, would a new
hard drive, and then hook the current one on to it as a
slave work? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

This is what it's supposed to do. There is normally no password, so <Enter>
gets you into the repair console. Suggest you search the MS Site for further
info on using it to straighten out the damage.

Well, I figured out a way to fix the problem. Thanks to
anyone who read and tried to think of a solution.

I'm interested in how you fixed it. I have a similiar problem where a
remote system running WinXP Pro (fully patched) is now prompting for
an administrator password. The OS was a OEM pre-loaded configuration
that never had this configured before so I don't know how this has
occurred. The system is only ever used as a 2-way satellite internet
router and no one ever actually uses the keyboard! I've tried
ctrl-alt-delete x2 then using <enter> for the password but this
doesn't get me in?? Any suggestions as to how it suddenly started
prompting for a password and how to fix?
