Windows randomly switching window focus on top application

I'm running WinXP SP2 and dont appear to have any viruses and have ran anti
spyware a few times from a few sources and am clean.

My issue is on 2 pcs.

What happens is if I have 1 or more applications of windows of any
application open like this and I'm in the application typing or what not
suddenly for no appearent reason I'm still typing however I hear clunk clunk
clunk each time I hit a key stroke. Looking at the window I'm typing or
working in I notice the blue banner is now grey meaning windows has changed
focus on something else.
While either typing an email in Outlook or working online typing in
anythying on a webpage or scrolling or searching or clicking or even working
in different applications on my systems I'll suddenly notice that the pc goes
"clunk" A quick alt tab gets me right back however this is not a fix. I'm not
hitting any other keys or doing anything like that.

I am a video editor as well and notice this in my video app as well like
while just watching the timeline play and not touching anything I'll go to
hit the space bar which should stop the play line, it just keeps going as my
system somehow has pushed that window behind something. I'll have to either
hit alt tab or click in the app to activate it to front priority.

This is also happening on my laptop doing all the sames things as I listed
here.

What is this and how can I stop this from happening.

if you suspect soemthing, make sure you are using a tool with an Advanced
scanning engine. Norton, McAffe,CA,and several others, ARE NOT "Advanced"try
Kaspersky's free online scan, or try Webroot, or PC Tools Spyware Doctor.
if you are running XP Kaspersky will find even your valid keyloggers. the
other two also do a good job of this

I'll try the free online scranner first. I have CA

Just wondering if anyone has heard or experienced this behavior before?

CA is not an Advanced security toll, neither is Norton, McAfee among others
Kasperky is. try the trial version, and you can really lock the system down,
and see what is sharing what dll, when .exe files, and dll files are changed

Thanks for that link, looks like a good resource. Well I tried that resolve
and rebooted however didnt seem to really resolve it unless I'm being hyper
observant now to everything that is going on. I'm waiting some time while
typing this up as this little window seems to be staying in front and focus.

I walked away from the pc for about 3 minutes and returned to find this
windows focus was stolen.

Did I not follow the instructions correctly or is there another issue and
resolution for this issue.

It's quite annoying.

I see, well I ran it again and says that no applications are stealing focus,
you may need to log of and back on for this to take effect, which I've now
done twice.

Just a double-click; that's all you need do. If something is still
stealing focus, you might consider what programs you've recently added.
I believe Mail Washer, and others that check for mail dis[play a
window in the taskbar, and steal focus.

So I'm still having this issue with something stealing focus on the window on
top.
This link here did absolutly nothing to resolve it, as well as running 3
different virus scans, 2 registry scans from 2 different apps, and 3 spyware
scans from 3 different apps.

I even had 3 techs from supportspace.com trouble shoot and 1 took control of
the pc and set it in the registry to never steal focus but it did not work.

WHAT CAN I DO TO STOP THIS?

Run Msconfig, and under the Startup tab, stop all programs that load,
restart the computer, and see what happens. If that stops it, add a few
programs till you narrow down the culprit.

I am well aware of msconfig, however that is just a band aid. I need to
resolve and remove this culpret from this and my laptop.

That may be something I'll look at.

BTW tweak ui did not work either from preventing other apps from stealing
focus

Yes, my intent was for you to use msconfig as a diagnostic tool to find
out what program was stealing the focus. Once you narrow down what
program, remove it.
