I was upgrade XP home to XP Professional. All was going
well until completion. Windows Product Activation A
problem is preventing Windows form accurately checking
the license for the computer. Error Code: 0x80004005.
What do I need to do. I have to fly out of town tomorrow
afternoon and I need my laptop and all the materials on
it. Any suggestions!!!!

Thanks

It sounds like you have installed a cracked version of the OS.
However, maybe not - the closest reference I know of to your problem might
be this:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310794

You could also try and perform an in-place upgrade of Windows XP. This is
done like this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315341

But almost all sites point to some sort of piracy reference..
http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/basics/activation/mpafaq.asp

The only other reference was this:
(Roughly translated from the German version at
http://www.microsoft.com/belux/NL/windowsxp/faq.Asp (Number 5).)

Failure of the procedure of activation of the product - Error: "A
problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for
this computer. Error Codes: 0x80004005"

Cause: the file pidgen.dll is damaged or the user used tools "Windows
product illegal activation cracking" which damaged the entries of the
registry like several files.

Solution: start in Safe mode without network and restore a system of a
date former to the problem.
