When I start up my pc and then go online a window appears saying there has
been an error in Windows explorer. When I click OK some of the icons on my
taskbar disappear, occasionally my wallpaper also goes and I have to click
the restore active desktop tag, anyone any idea what's up. Thank you.

When I click the Application tab in the Event Viewer there are numerous
Application errors, is there anything in particular I should be looking for?
Thanks.

Looks like it might be the DEP feature... try disabling it and seeing it is
stops occurring. You can change the options for DEP by doing the following.
Press Win Flag +
Pause break key (if not right click on my computer and select properties) >
Go to the 'Advanced Tab' > Under Performance options click 'Settings' > Go
to DEP tab > Here you can turn on DEP or turn it off.

You might want to select 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services
except those I select:' and check Windows Explorer.

Although this might not be the cause of the problem, the things that are
happening to you are similar of what would happen due to DEP kicking in and
closing the computer.

Thanks for the reply Rishi, I tried what you suggested but there is not a
DEP tab in the Performance Options window, only Visual Effects and Advanced
tabs. I checked on Google and all the info I got said that it should be where
you said it would be, any idea why it is not there? Thanks
