Windows pop up box

When I insert a cd, Windows use to pop up a box and ask "What do you want
Windows to do?" Now when I insert a cd, Media player always comes up and will
not let me see what is on the cd. How can I get that Windows box to pop up
again and ask me the above question?

Hi,

Open My Computer, right click on CD drive icon and go to Autoplay tab.
Select "Prompt me each time to choose an action"

After I do what you said, I clicked on "APPLY" and then OK. I get out of the
screen and go back into the properties screen and it did not change. It still
has "Music" in the top box. I want "Mixed Content" in the top box and "Prompt
me each time to choose an action". It will not keep my changes even after I
click on "APPLY".

Jess,

Here's everything you can try:

Run the Auto Play Repair Tool (Line 234)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315753
The Autoplay feature may not start the correct Autorun command from a
CD-ROM or a DVD-ROM
Check your settings here: Control Panel/Administrative
Tools/Services/Shell Hardware Detection/Return this service to
Automatic.

Enable CD AutoPlay for Pro or Home (Line 10)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

If you are using TweakUI/My Computer/AutoPlay
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-...
http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/windowsxp_pt.asp

Many users have solved this issue by removing the AutoPlay Handlers.
Details provided here:

Terry,
I ran some of those examples you gave me. It worked on one of my drive. It
did not work on one. I am happy. As long as I can use one drive and the pop
up box comes up and asks me what to do, I am happy. Thanks alot...

Strange one of them still doesn't work. But I'm glad you're happy.
Happy to help,
