Windows picture and fax viewer has taken over Photo Editor

My jpeg/jpg files used to open in Microsoft Photo Editor.
Now the Windows picture and fax viewer has taken over. I
have gone to My Computer, folder options, file types and
every jpg, jpeg has Photo Editor selected, the always use
box is greyed out. In fact, every thing that was marked
picture and fax viewer was changed to photo editor. I can
manually open the files with photo editpr by right
clicking on the jpeg and selecting "open with" and check
always use this when opening tese files, but next time
the cinfounded picture anf fax viewer opens it anyway.
How can I bring back my Photo Editor, and get rid of the
picture and fax viewer. I do not use my computer for
faxing. I have searched for the confounded thing but have
not found it.

First...try this...

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

Now...try this...

Right click an image file and from the menu...
choose...Properties...

On the General tab...left click the Change button...

Choose the program you wish to set as your default
image viewer for images of the selected format.
OK / Apply / OK...
