Windows Photo Gallery jpg compression

Using Windows Photo Gallery I can select some pictures and directly
send them by email. Fine. The problem is when I select to resize the
images. The images quality is very poor. The same features in XP
produce better resized images. I suspect that the problem reside in
the jpeg compression. Infact resizing the images using Paint.net and
saving them with jpeg quality setted at 90 produce good smaller
images. Quality 40 is comparable to the Windows Photo Gallery resize.
So, where can I change the jpeg compression from Windows Photo
Gallery?
Thanks.

Grab a free copy of IrfanView.

It's about the best tool I know of for resizing / resampling images.
Set it to use the Lanczos filter ( slowest )

You can also vary the save "quality"

I am hunting for answer to the same question, and I am even considering going
back to XP because it makes me mad. I use the email photo method every day
and it is way simpler than using an outside shrinking program, i have a
wonderful one , but i dont want to have to do that and then attach the files,
when it is so simple to just right click and send to email, but the quality
is unacceptable. XP was such good quality even in the smallest size and i
remember being very skeptical when they came out with that, but was very
happy with the quality after comparing it like you did. Are they going to
fix this or leave it as is. i'm not going to upgrade my other programs (and
spend money on them) and then have this POOR quality in sending email photos.
