Vista won't display JPEG files as pictures

My JPEG (.jpg) files that used to display as images within folders now
display as the generic icons (ie. the lake and mountain scene). Canging
folder views doesn't fix this nor does using "open with" and setting the
default application as windows photo gallery (which it was anyway).
Interestingly, I have three .jpg files that always display as images while
all the others (that also used to) don't. I can't work out what is so
special about these three files. All files open normally and display as
pictures in Windows Gallery. I'm using Vista Ultimate SP1. Help appreciated.

You could try using System Restore, back to a date that you recall the system
being normal. If you do use SR, remember first to disable any antivirus
program that might interfere with SR, particularly Norton. You have to find
where there is a box ticked that protects your Norton product against attack,
and untick it.

If SR works for you, please let us know.
