Windows Photo Gallery disabling

Hi. I know I shouldn't be using old programs but for absolutely years (going
back to win95 days!) I have been using a very early version of Jasc
paintshop pro which is version 3.11 its got the only imaging tools I will
ever need, know it inside and out and has no high demands on the PC and its
been working perfectly in Windows XP for me. Its working great on my new
Vista PC also I didn't even have to change any compatibility settings
either. However I have a problem going on with the jpg associations. I have
told it that every time I click on a jpg photo to open up with PSP311.exe
but vista is having none of it and keeps still opening up the jpg's in
Windows Photo Gallery instead anyone got any work around / fixes I can try
to open up my jpg's straight into PSP when I double click on them please?

Andy.

Did you change what application opens JPG files from the master file
association list under Default Programs in Control Panel? This should
override other settings.

You can have you cake and eat it too. Why not leave Photo Gallery
display JPEG files and simply open the JPEG files in Paint Shop Pro.
This method works fine in Photoshop, should work in other graphic
programs.

I have my system set up this way:

1. Photo Galley shows all supported file types and shows a thumbnail
in Window Explorer IF you check Detail pane under Layout under
Organize.

2. Double clicking opens the file in Photo Galley, thus I can quickly
scan through all images. You can OPEN, meaning work on your JPEG
or othe graphic files by clicking on the OPEN choice from within
Photo Gallery. This will take you to whatever program you elect.

For example I have Photoshop as a choice. So if I open any JPEG in
Photo Galley, then click Open, then select Photoshop the image spawns
an instance of Photoshop and opens the file in it automatically, while
still keeping it available in Photo Gallery.

3. I can always start up Photoshop by clicking on it's shortcut. Then
use it's file browsing ability to locate whatever file I need to
work on.

That's the way I ideally want it work I suppose. Double click and have it
open up in Windows Photo Gallery and then click on Open With and chose
PSP.exe but when I do it doesn't open up psp.exe it just opens up Windows
Photo Gallery again! - or I just want it to open straight up in PSP3.11 when
I double click a jpg

Yes, I originally changed the default program through default programs in
control panel choosing associate a file type or protocol with a program.
