windows password recovery...PLEASE HELP!

My girlfriend has a dell laptop, her parents were using it. We got it back
and it is prompting us for a windows log in password. She has no idea what
it is, we have tried all the passwords we can think of, nothing is working.
We can not log into windows to do anything on this computer. Microsoft has
referred us to the web site and I can not come up with anything. Does anyone
have any suggestions?

Try tapping F8 on start up,or restart,select,safe mode,open xp as
administrator.
