Windows opening 2 copies of same software

I have Media Center Edition, latest version shipped on
new Dell Dimension 8300 computer. About half of the time,
when I click an icon to open some software such as ACT
(Best Software company) or Quickbooks (Intuit Software
Company), the system opens 2 copies of the software
simultaneously as I see in the Task bar, and the program
stalls out. Any way to fix this?

Maybe it is a virus. If it is you can search for Nod32 Antivirus.
