Windows open on desk top

I want to open 5 or 10 program or website icons on my desk top. When I open
one it closes the one I opened before it. How do I tell windows I want to
have 20 windows open at once. Right now It will let me open many but
sometimes it closes one when I open another.

If you are clicking on a link and it re-uses the current Window, then
right click on the link and tell it to open in a new Window.
Also - in IE>Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Reuse Windows.... uncheck.
