Windows Open Minimized ... (?)

David

For some reason, some of my windows open minimized and others open
maximized. I have been unable to determine any predictable pattern to
this. It seems random. Is there a default setting somewhere that I can
have them always default to maximized?

I realize that it is supposed to be possible to go into the Properties for
each individual program; but 1) a default setting would be much easier
because of the large number of programs, and 2) some of them aren't even
programs at all -- e.g., Control Panel and Windows Explorer.

Thank you very much, in advance, for any guidance.,
David

I don't know of any global setting. Each icon has a setting, but some
programs are designed to ignore windows settings like that. I have some that
cannot be set to less then maximized by windows.

So I have a program called "autosizer" that runs in the background. You
tell it how you want it to control the non-cooperating programs and it
controls them

Minimized means the window's icon is minimized to the taskbar: Do you mean
minimized or smaller-than-full screen?

Thank you, Widman,
I never realized that there was so much variability in the different
software design intents, but I guess we have to live with that.
Thank you for the "autosizer" tip -- I will check it out!

To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you include all of previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you.

1. Start > (All) Programs > Right-click on [program] > Properties > Run >
Select "Normal window".

2. Now open only one window in the program > "Grab" the corners of the
window with your cursor and drag it to the desired size > Close it by
clicking on the X in upper-right corner (possibly whilst depressing CTRL) or
via File > Close.

The size should be "remembered" now.

Windows (the Operating System) always remembers the size of the last window
closed, in a given program.

Thanks, PA,

Actually, I almost always do include everything from the previous
message(s). And I have certainly done so in this thread. But sometimes I
have been frustrated myself by this same problem, (when other people appear
to have not done so). So I am wondering if it is something that goes on in
the news server, or perhaps from a setting in one's own newsreader??? If
you have any ideas toward a solution, I will certainly fix it on my end if
that's where the problem lies. (BTW, I'm using Agent 2.0)

In fact, I now notice that part of *your* message has been removed from my
response! So the problem may well be within my own Agent! But I don't
know how to fix it. Does anyone?

I have tried your solution on a couple of the worst offenders, and it
appears to have worked just fine. Thank you very much for the tip!!

David
