Lately, Windows will mot shut down when using Start/Shut Down on the first
try, even after giving it a few minutes. It works on the second or third
time.

I'm running XP Pro SP3 on a 1.8 GHZ M/B. 1mb RAM, `60gb HD. Done all
hardware and software upgrades, run full virus scan, used Megabytes and
Spybot.Checked Device Driver for problems and found okay.

Any suggestions?
Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob, I came by your post. I'm afraid I don't have a clue for you. But funnily
enough, on my computer Windows attempts to shut down all the time it is being
booted.

Then why post ? This isn't a bloody chatroom. You *are* clueless.

Yeah, LOL. We're happy for you. Go back to your room, kid.

You could try UPHClean.

What about this:

Just before going to shut down, open up Task Manager (right-click taskbar,
choose "Task Manager"). Put list into alphabetical order. Kill tasks one by
one from the top (unless its a critical component of Windows), then see if
it shuts down. Keep trying this over and over until you work out which
process is stopping the shut down. Then retest by rebooting and *only*
shutting down that process so you know you've got the one. Then try and
remove that software or get someone to write a "Process-Killer" for you that
you run just before shutting down. 9/10 times you can do without that
software anyway.

Just a suggestion...not certain this will work.

Hi,

But the issue I am facing is something different, I am able to logoff
very quickly but when I click on the shutdown option it takes minimum 5-10
mins to bring the shutdown window.
