Windows Movie Maker Has Encountered a problem

Get the above pop up when I click "capture from video device". It wants to
send an error report, then freezes or shuts down. I used to be able to do
this without an issue. I have a camcorder that I hook up through my TV
tuner. I have installed a Logitech web cam since the last successful video
capture. Any thoughts?

going thru the TV tuner is trying to capture an MPEG-2 file, which doesn't
typically work in Movie Maker.

if your setup worked before, you could try a system restore and go back in
time... but, assuming you want to go forward, you're better working out your
capture/conversion process to be independent of the TV tuner. What brand and
model camcorder is it?

That's an analog Hi8 camcorder.... your choices include:

- getting an analog capture device that works with Movie Maker... the Dazzle
80 to 95 series at the low end, and the Canopus devices at the high end. The
Analog Video Capture section of my site has links.

- playing the Hi8 tapes in a digital8 camcorder connected by firewire.

- using the 'pass-thru' feature of a digital camcorder.. with MM2.1 - see
the Setup Movie Maker > MM2.1 page of my site

Thanks for the info...I'm not sure I'm getting as far as you think. When I
click to go into the capture mode, it immediately stops and asks to send an
error report. i never even get in to try and choose how I am going to
capture the movies. Used to work, doesn't now.

if you're not setup with capture hardware that works with Movie Maker, you
get that kind of issue....

if it worked before, maybe a system restore to go back to that time... and
past success doesn't mean it'll keep working for you... as software changes
have made the criteria tighter.
