Windows Movie Maker file won't open

I created a Movie Maker project and when it was finished I was able to burn
it into DVD format. After several times of burning the file it stopped
responding so I backed out and then tried to reopen it, now I get "Can not be
opened because it is not a valid Windows Movie Maker project file," I don't
understand, this file was created on Movie Maker so why would it not open as
a valid Movie Maker file?? Please can anyone help me with this, I really do
not want to have to recreate the entire file again.
