windows movie maker 2.1

okay, i have the first edition of movie maker. I am trying to download the
new version but nothing is working.

I got the microsoft update but it doesn't update my movie maker. It only
updates these things:

I got the 2.1 version before but I lost it by rebooting my computer but now
I have no idea how to get it.

MM 2.1 is installed with Windows XP Service Pack 2. It is the only way you
can get it. In your list of updates, I don't see SP2 listed.

MM 2.0 was a downloadable file but it is no longer available through
Microsoft but may be on other download sites. Search for it.

Knowledge base article about failure to install.

CAUSE
This problem may occur if some .dll files and the Moviemk.exe file are not
replaced during setup.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, follow these steps:1. Quit Movie Maker.
2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click
Windows Explorer.
3. In Windows Explorer, locate the following folder:
C:\Windows\RegisteredPackages\{60BFF50D-FB2C-4498-A577-C9548C390BB9}
4. Copy the files contained in the {60BFF50D-FB2C-4498-A577-C9548C390BB9}
folder to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker
5. Click Yes to All in the Confirm File Replace dialog box.
6. In the C:\Program Files\Movie Maker folder, right-click the Mm20ex.inf
file, and then click Install.
7. Double-click the Moviemk.exe file to start Movie Maker 2.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products
that are listed at the beginning of this article.
