I just reformatted and reinstalled windows XP home and it's missing the
wireless zero configuration. I checked in Admin>services and it's on
automatic and it is started. Why isn't it in the control panel?

Where exactly are you looking for the WZC service, and what do you
expect to see there? Individual Windows services don't appear in
Control Panel, in either Classic View or Category View.

Are you looking for the Wireless Network Setup Wizard? That's
something different, and it requires Windows XP Service Pack 2.

No, the wireless network setup wizard does not appear in the control panel.
When I try to put in the CD to install my PCI adapter, the setup window will
not appear. When I called Linksys ( the manufacturer of my wireless network)
They said that the wireless zero configuration was not installed when I
reformatted and reinstalled XP.

I was looking for the wireless zero configuration under Control
Panel>Administrative Tools>Services then scrolled down to wireless zero
configuration and right clicked it and selected properties. In properties the
startup trype was automatic and it was started.

From what you say, the Linksys people gave you bad information, which
doesn't surprise me at all. If the Wireless Zero Configuration
service appears in Admin>services, it's installed. The WZC service
isn't supposed to appear in Control Panel.

Is your XP Home installation updated to Service Pack 2? The Wireless
Network Setup Wizard requires Service Pack 2. It should appear in
Classic View. If you've set Control Panel to Category View, look
under Network and Internet Connections.

Try opening the Linksys CD in Windows Explorer and manually running
the Setup.exe program.

BTW, I've had so many problems with Linksys wireless networking
adapters that I won't buy or recommend Linksys. If one of my
consulting clients asks me to install a Linksys adapter that he/she
bought, I say that I'll try, but that I can't guarantee that it will
work.
