Windows messenger

Why does it always automatically log on to it when I start outlook express?

I have disabled it in control panel>administrative tools> services.
I have disabled it in outlook express>tools>options>general.
I have disabled it in control panel>add/remove programs>set program access
or defaults.

I don't know why it keeps automatically logging on to Win Messenger after
I've disabled all these things.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Do you have the Contacts pane showing in Outlook Express? If so, that
hooks into Messenger and will cause it to load also. Turn off the Contacts
pane in Outlook Express and see if Messenger still loads.

You're right it does make a difference.
Is there a way to turn this off, since I never use the Messenger but would
like to have my contacts pane showing.

Thanks.

To have the contacts pane not show Messenger contacts...

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Right click in the right pane and select New, Dword value. Give it the name
Hide Messenger Double click this new entry and set the value to 2.

Not sure if this will help. -- I just went through this. My daughter had
Windows Messenger set to run when windows started. I went to Start Menu,
Windows Messenger, Tools, Options, Preferences and unchecked Run this
program when Windows starts. It apparently not automatically logging my
daughter in any more.
