When I went online yesterday on my computer, I saw a pop-up Windows Messenger saying that "A newer version of messenger is available, you must download in order to continue." with two actionable buttons: "Yes" and "No". I sensed this might be something weird and have not clicked on any button

There was no "x" button at the far right corner to click to get rid of it. Can someone please share what is the best approach to deal with this and to find out whether this is legitimate from Window or any virus? Thanks.

It's a normal part of windows messenger, they won't let
you use it unless you download the latest version.
