Windows Messenger

I use Windows messenger to communicate with my sister online. However, I
would like to turn it off and on from time to time for security reasons. I
tried unchecking "msmsgs" in my startup file (via msconfig), but it still
comes online as soon as I establish an internet connection. Can this be
disabled at will? Charles Ranheim

Hello,

You should be able to stop that from starting up
automatically by clicking on "tools" and then "options"
in Windows Messenger and then checking or unchecking
boxes on the "preferences" tab. We have ours set not to
run in background and not to start when windows starts.

Hope this helps,

Lynda,
Thanks for your information. If I chose the option to only run in the
background, wouldn't it still be running and allowing someone to get in my
machine and possibility do harm? I was trying to find a way to leave it
turned off when not needed, and turn it on when I want to use it in an
attempt to close a potentially harmful path into my PC. Am I just being over
protective? Charles Ranheim
