Windows Messenger-SP2

Jerome M. Katz

I just installed Windows XP SP2. Windows Messsenger started at
startup. I went to Msconfig and set it not to start at startup, but
now it is trying again to run at startup (I have a startup monitor
program telling me whenever a program wants to run at startup. I am
always saying no but I get the prompt every several minutes. Does
anyone know how I can stop this?

Prevent "Windows Messenger" from automatically running
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_messenger_autorun.htm

Note: Disable your antivirus program before running this script.

By far the easiet way to stop messenger from starting, is to rename it's
folder (i.e. from c:\Program\Messenger to something like
c:\Program\DontUseMessenger)

Soooo simple! ;)
