Windows Messenger question

XP SP2 has a program called Windows Messenger v. 4.7 installed. Can
this program communicate in real-time with people using MSN Messenger?
 
Thanks. Actually, I just downloaded and installed MSN Messenger on my
XP computer because I consider it a better program than Windows Messenger.
