Windows Messenger 4.7 compatibility with MSN Messenger 6.0

R

Ray

I use Windows Messenger primarily for two features:
Remote Assistance to help several of my friends, Video
conferencing to my son who lives out of town. As an
experiment I tried the new MSN Messenger WEBcam feature
to see if I could connect to Windows Messenger 4.7 video
conference. That appears to be incompatible. I don't want
to upgrade to Windows Messenger and loose the Remote
Assistance feature. So my question is.....will Windows
Messenger retain the Remote Assistant and Video
conference and will it be compatible with people that
have Windows Messenger 4.7 now. Also will Windows
Messenger 5.0 support Video conferencing with a user that
has MSN Messenger 6.0?

I would appreciate some guidance, as this seems very
confusing.

Greetings Ray,

All Messenger clients on Windows XP (Windows Messenger 4.x, MSN Messenger 5 and MSN Messenger
6) are compatible with one another in voice/video and remote assistance. However, in order
for Remote Assistance to work in MSN Messenger (5 or 6), Windows Messenger was remain
installed (but not necessarily running).

The MSN Messenger 6 'Webcam' function is only for use with other MSN Messenger 6 clients --
however if you use the Actions menu, 'Start Video Conference' option in MSN Messenger 6, that
is the same as what's in Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger 5 (and completely compatible).
