Windows Memory Diagnostic found an error...also reinstall xphome

I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic
(http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp) at the
suggestion of somebody on the board (thanks!!! haha)

anyway, It found an error. it is as follows:

Standard test ran fine for a while.
Advanced test ERROR:

Results: 1
Pass: 1
Test: ERAND
Cache: ON
Address: 0115133c
Expected: 2f2b858e
Actual: 2f2b528e

ERRORS by memory module:
slot 'DDR 1': 1
slot 'DDR 2': 0
slot 'DDR 3': not populated

so, I take it that this means there is something wrong
with my DDR memor in slot one, which is a 512MB one - and
came with my computer. The memory in slot 2 is a 256MB
that I bought and installed my self.

can i fix this somehow??

i ALSO would like to reinstall the system files of XP
home - if I could just get some reassurance that there IS
A WAY to do this with just the XP home cd, without
formatting everything, i'd be very happy. I have a spare
drive I can back things up on before I do it, (althought
it'll be a pain...ha)...

Thanks so much, and the sooner the better if I can get
some help! BSOD's are many and often. thanks.

.
Just remove that bad 512 mb RAM module, and switch the
good 256 mb RAM over to slot one, then some time soon
just buy one more module of 256 mb RAM matching and
correct speed and type for your PC. For XP system files
you just run the windows system file checker tool which
is this; sfc /scannow (with that space there after sfc)
and it runs as windows file protection and will ask for
your XP CD to copy needed files from to replace corrupt
ones.
