windows media player

After trying to open wimdows media player, and being
unable to find it under my programs heading, I tried
installing new version 10.

It downloaded and an error message came up saying it was
incompatible with this version of windows. Tried
downloading version 9. Same result. I am running XP
pro, and have had version 9 running on many occassions
before. Even tried reinstalling components from the cd.

Any help would be appreciated.
