XP, SP2. Installed WM10. Double clicked on the icon.

"An internal application error has occurred."

No mention in EventViewer of any details.

"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:1

I can run WM 6.

How can I fix things?

Thanks.

I read each and everyone of your posts starting with unable to backup to
Internet backup service....WMP11.....WMP10...help&suport..etc..problems.
It seems to me that you have spend an unusual ammount of time trying to fix
"little" problems. You must have more patience than I.........
If uninstalling the offending applications had not solved my problems...if
the errors continued after the uninstall of the offenders...if the
SFC/scannow option was not able to revert the offending .dll's to their
original state........if the Restore Points created before the install of
the offending programs did not work........................
By now I would have backed up all of my settings with the Transfer
Wizard.....backed up all of my work onto a DVD or 2 ..got out my
mobo/video/audio/drivers CD...got out the CD for my programs and gotten
ready to reinstall XP...by means of a format and a fresh new install.
Sometimes you just gotta !!

I have backup images on external hard disks. Yes, if I knew something were
wrong, I could replace the bad file. But how can I use the images to restore?
Do I have to reformate and reinstall?

The programt hat you used to create the images should have detailed
instructions on how to restore the image.
Basically you do not reformat....the image program does it all.
It does a quick format and then restores the image...and you are back to
the date that you made that image.

I hope you are not planning to reinstall XP just because WMP10 is defunct.
Download a new (fresh) copy of WMP10 and install it overtop of what you
have presently installed, it is designed that way. Reboot and see if it works
properly. If not, try the below media player you may like it better, as long
as your sounds are working, they are working aren't they?
