I currently have version 10 installed.

Suddenly, I am unable to hear any sound when I play any audio file. The
visualization indicates action; but no sound. I am able to see video
but also without sound.

It is not the speakers or sound card as other programs (Winamp/Real)
work properly.

Is there some setting I am missing?

PS, I uninstalled it and returned to version 9 which also did not play a
sound. I D/L a new copy of version 10, reinstalled, and still no
difference.

Open WMP and check bottom screen for the Volume slider.
See if it is off, slide it all the way to the right.
